President Biden demands Russia releases Brittney Griner immediately after the WNBA star was sentenced to 9 years in prison

President Joe Biden called on Russia to "release her immediately" after Brittney Griner was sentenced to nine years in a Russian prison.

The WNBA superstar and two-time Olympic gold medalist was found guilty of drug-smuggling charges after customs agents at a Moscow airport found vape cartridges containing hashish oil in her luggage back in February.

Griner and her defense maintained throughout her trial that the inclusion of the vape cartridges in her luggage was purely accidental, as she forgot to take them out of her bags while packing in a hurry.

President Bush in a statement said the judgement was "unacceptable" and called on Russia to release her immediately so she can be with her wife, loved ones, friends, and teammates.
