Does anyone have any experience with investing in Indian stocks?

I'm planning to invest a few hundred dollars, but I'm not sure which companies to look out for. I find India as an interesting market, especially with its growing population and economy. I've heard about Tata, but they always seem to be involved in some scandal or corruption. Any recommendations for a less controversial option?
